Warehouse TERRADA to Open an Art Complex with Rental Studios and Art Storage on the Kyoto City University of Arts Campus in the Summer of 2024
Warehouse TERRADA announces the opening of its inaugural art complex in Kyoto, scheduled for the summer of 2024. This facility will be situated within the Kyoto City University of Arts campus, which underwent relocation in October of the previous year, and will feature rental studios and art storage. Warehouse TERRADA aims to facilitate the creative endeavors of artists through this initiative, contribute to the revitalization of Kyoto as Japan’s quintessential city of culture and arts, and pursue the further growth of the Japanese art market.

The facility is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024 on the new campus of Kyoto City University of Arts. Situated near Kyoto Station, this area is evolving into a new emblematic zone of Kyoto, a city celebrated for its culture and arts. The vicinity will host an array of facilities dedicated to disseminating various artistic and cultural expressions, with plans for inter-facility collaborations.
The facility will offer two primary services:
- Rental Studios “TERRADA ART STUDIO Kyoto”
- Art Storage “TERRADA ART STORAGE Kyoto”
Kyoto, renowned for its historical and cultural wealth as an ancient city, is home to numerous institutions specializing in arts education. The city harbors many artists who continue their endeavors in Kyoto post-graduation, driving the demand for creative workspaces and art storage solutions. In response, the “TERRADA ART STUDIO Kyoto” rental studios will be established to provide artists with ideal environments for their creative work, thereby supporting their artistic pursuits.
Additionally, we will incorporate “TERRADA ART STORAGE Kyoto,” a dedicated art storage facility. This will serve not just for artists wishing to store their creations but also for collectors and art aficionados, thus playing a crucial part in facilitating the exhibition and distribution of art. The facility will also feature a community space, offering programs that foster deeper connections between artists and art enthusiasts.
Since the 1970s, our company has spearheaded the art storage business from our Tennoz, Tokyo, base. Starting in the 1980s, we have engaged in urban development through art in collaboration with neighboring companies and local communities. More recently, we have repurposed warehouse buildings to manage museums, studios, and gallery complexes, alongside organizing events in partnership with international art fairs. Our efforts extend to supporting artists’ career development, notably through TERRADA ART AWARD, aimed at discovering emerging talents in contemporary art, and WHAT CAFE, which exhibits and sells works by up-and-coming artists. In Kyoto, our new venture will also aim to bolster ties with educational and research institutions, including Kyoto City University of Arts, and the local community. Supporting Kyoto-based artists, we strive to energize the Japanese art market.
