Warehouse TERRADA Opens BONDED GALLERY for Artworks in Tennoz, Tokyo

Warehouse TERRADA announced today that we have opened a new BONDED GALLERY venue in the Tennoz area of Tokyo from September 20th, 2022. It is on the site of a bonded warehouse* accredited on April 12, 2022. The aim of the gallery and its neighboring BONDED LOUNGE (a bonded warehouse) is to drive the growth of Tennoz as a vibrant domestic and international art hub while in turn contributing to the vitalization of the Japanese art market. From September 21st (Wed) to September 23rd (Fri), 2022, the gallery will be used for an art auction preview run by New Art Est-Ouest Auctions Co., Ltd, prior to the auction on September 24th (Sat), 2022.

[Promoting International Art Distribution Through Two Bonded Areas]

BONDED GALLERY is a permanent bonded gallery venue where art collections from overseas can be exhibited, viewed, and stored under bonded conditions, and features an environment specialized for the handling of art. In conjunction with our event spaces and the bonded warehouse in BONDED LOUNGE, located at our head office building and has been in operation since 2014, we commenced a full-scale operation for artwork viewing and storage service, utilizing our bonded facilities.

The bonding system allows art to be transported from the owner’s country of residence for the purpose of viewings and acquisition under bonded conditions. BONDED GALLERY and BONDED LOUNGE will play an important role in further revitalizing the Japanese art market by enabling viewings and purchase discussions of art pieces transported to Japan from overseas without them being subject to customs duties and other payments. These two bonded areas will allow foreign art to flow into the Japanese market, promote the purchase of art from domestic and foreign art collectors in Japan, and draw international galleries to Japan’s shores.
