Announcement for TERRADA ART AWARD 2021, Each Jury’s Award for Five Finalists

The artworks by each finalist are being exhibited in TERRADA ART AWARD 2021 Finalist Exhibition held in our event space from December 10th, 2021 (Fri) to December 23rd (Thu). Since the five finalists were announced in August 2021, they have been creating diversified artworks, including two-dimensional works, three-dimensional works, sound, installations, movies, and performances based on each exhibition proposal submitted for the final selection. Maximizing the capability of the space renovated from a warehouse to open up each artist’s world view and talent, five artists have prepared their works, including new pieces for the exhibition and their style of presentation. The exhibition where all their artworks are put together is absolutely worth seeing. Also, during TERRADA ART AWARD 2021 Finalist Exhibition, one winner of the Audience’s Choice Award (Prize of 1 million yen) will be selected through voting by visitors to the venue and online.

TERRADA ART AWARD 2021 was established to discover and support up-and-coming artists in contemporary art. We announced the award in December 2020 and received 1,346 entries from Japan and abroad within two months of the application period. To discover a talent that can make its presence known throughout the art scenes around the world, we invited the jury members who have made their talents recognized on a global stage and have a comprehensive understanding of contemporary art. In the first-round screening, 50 artists were selected, and then the five finalists were announced by the final jury members. Each finalist was awarded an opportunity to exhibit their work in TERRADA ART AWARD 2021 Finalist Exhibition, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs (1500 ml) from MHD Moët Hennessy Diageo K.K., one of the award sponsors, and art supplies worth about 100,000 yen at PIGMENT TOKYO, an opportunity to exhibit and sell artworks at WHAT CAFE and one year of free use of our art storage service. Through these awards, we seek to discover the only handful of talent that can be found in every generation, and help grow the winners’ careers by offering them our full support, until they can stand stalwart in the world as artists in their own right, and pass on the value of Japanese contemporary art to future generations.

Awards details: 3 million yen awarded to each of five groups of finalists
1 million yen awarded to one group receiving the Audience’s Choice Award (selected from the five groups of finalists)
