Warehouse TERRADA to Present “Blurred: Intersecting Boundaries,” Exhibition Fusing Traditional Techniques and Contemporary Art at BONDED GALLERY, Starting September 11th (Thu), 2025

A three-artist exhibition featuring works by Yuki Nara, Masayoshi Nojo, and Ayako Kuno, incorporating Japan's traditional techniques such as ceramics, metal leaf and metal casting

Warehouse TERRADA will present the exhibition "Blurred: Intersecting Boundaries" at BONDED GALLERY, our gallery space, from September 11th (Thu) to September 28th (Sun), 2025. This exhibition is part of the related programming for TENNOZ ART WEEK 2025.

This exhibition presents works by Yuki Nara, Masayoshi Nojo, and Ayako Kuno—three emerging artists who fuse traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary art. Their practices traverse diverse realms— architecture and ceramics, photography and memory, metal and the city—subtly shifting the boundaries we unconsciously take for granted. In a contemporary world where everything tends to be quantified and clearly defined, their expressions reveal the beauty of ambiguity that quietly resides in the in-between—the kind of ambiguity signified by the word “Blurred.”
Through contemporary reconstructions of traditional methods such as ceramics, metal leaf, and metal casting, the exhibition invites viewers to experience a world that gently wavers between clearly drawn lines.

Yuki Nara

Born in 1989 in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa, Japan. He studied architecture at Tokyo University of the Arts and ceramic art at Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center. In 2017, he graduated as the top of his class in the Architecture program at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. After learning under Atsushi Kitagawara, he established the architectural design firm EARTHEN in 2021.
Employing 3D CAD and programming, he promotes new values of craft, aiming to integrate traditional techniques of ceramic art and cutting-edge architectural technologies. His representative ceramic work, “Bone Flower,” which pursues the integration of architecture and pottery, is held in the collection of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. Selected awards include the Special Recognition Award at the 3rd Triennale of KOGEI in Kanazawa, the Pen Creator Award 2021, Special Prize at the 80th Kanazawa Craft Exhibition, and the Special Judges’ Award at the 13th International Ceramics Competition Mino, Japan. His architectural debut “Node Kanazawa,” completed in 2023, has received the “Yoshinobu Ashihara New Comer Award” at the 33rd AACA Award, the Good Design Award 2024, the 5th ADAN Prize, the Silver Prize at the Japan Kukan Design Award 2024, the 30th Ishikawa Landscape Award, the 46th Kanazawa Urban Structure Award, the AIJ Young Architect Award for Selected Architectural Designs, and more.

Masayoshi Nojo

Born in 1989 in Kanagawa, Japan. He received his M.A. in Japanese Painting from Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2015. With his unique meticulous techniques, he fuses contemporary visual languages with Japanese tradition and explores themes of memory and the passage of time. His “Mirage” series draws inspiration from natural phenomena. In these works, he attempts to transform the immersive experience of landscapes, which appear and disappear under the influence of their surroundings, into a subtle visual experience by reconstructing images with metal leaf. Major exhibitions include “Optical Scenery” in 2025 (Eslite Gallery /Taipei City), “Lest in Silver” in 2024 (JD Malat Gallery / London), “Immerse yourself in the transitory nature” in 2023 (WHAT MUSEUM / Tokyo), the solo exhibition “Stillness” in 2021 (YUKIKO MIZUTANI / Tokyo), and the Meiji Jingu Forest Festival of Art “Shikansuiyo” in 2020 (Meiji Shrine Museum), among others. His works are held in the collections of Sagawa Art Museum, UESHIMA COLLECTION, OCA Tokyo, Universal Music Japan, and many other domestic and international institutions.

Ayako Kuno

Born in 1983. In 2010, she received her MFA in crafts (metal casting) from Tokyo University of the Arts. She currently creates her work based in Tokyo. She employs lost-wax casting in her work to create intricate and structured sculptures.
Lost-wax casting is a technique in which intricate forms made from wax are turned into metal. Her works embody delicate, high-density details within a solid, substantial texture. She primarily themes her work around “urban” concepts, incorporating images of ever-expanding urban structures and the complex intertwining of contemporary landscapes as motifs. Through the medium of metal, she pursues dynamic and intricate sculptural beauty. Recent exhibitions include Oku-Noto Triennale 2020+ (2021) and the 5th Triennale of Kogei in Kanazawa (2022). Selected awards include the Grand Prize of SHIBUYA AWARDS (2016) and the Encouragement Prize of Sano Renaissance Metal Casting Exhibition (2017), among numerous other awards.
