WHAT CAFE to Hold an Exhibition Under the Cooperation of JILL STUART from June 5th and Unveil Novel Fascination through Art and Apparel
Collaboration items by up-and-coming artists Saya Mimura and Erika Naka, along with their original artworks, will be on sale
WHAT CAFE, an art gallery cafe operated by Warehouse TERRADA, will have an exhibition under the cooperation of JILL STUART, an apparel brand owned by TSI HOLDINGS CO., LTD. from June 5th (Wed) to June 16th (Sun), 2024.
- Inspiration of the Collaboration
WHAT CAFE has embraced the “ART IS …” concept, intending to make art more accessible and enrich people’s lives. It provides a space for everyone who visits WHAT CAFE to reconsider and rediscover what art is and to explore their own “likes,” all while showcasing and selling artworks by various artists. In November 2023, the first exhibition, which combined art and apparel, was held with the cooperation of JILL STUART, based on a mutual understanding of the value that both companies attribute to the experience for their customers. The exhibition was well-received as a venue that communicated the appeal of both art and apparel and provided new experiences for both. As a result, the decision was made to hold a second exhibition.
- Overview
This exhibition will feature artworks by 14 young artists who have reinterpreted JILL STUART’s seasonal concept of “Multifaceted gem.” Among them are Saya Mimura and Erika Naka, who collaborated with the brand to create original art items. The newly created works for these collaboration items will be showcased alongside them. The venue fuses art and apparel and will offer visitors an innovative new environment and experience. A free audio guide narrated by an art navigator, Avi, will be available during the exhibition, and her fashion styling for museum visits will be on display.
Through this collaboration, WHAT CAFE will reassess one’s perspective of the concept of “ART IS” for various individuals and companies, creating a space where they can make discoveries.
- Details of the Collaboration
Six original art items will be on display and for sale, including a dress, skirt, and tote bag utilizing textiles that incorporate Saya Mimura’s work, as well as a T-shirt and tote bag that Erika Naka’s work has been printed on. In addition, their newly created works for these collaboration items will be on display and for sale.
