WHAT CAFE to Collaboratively Create Exhibition with Artist Yuka Numata from March 22nd

A group show of 100 to 150 artworks by ten artists, as well as original events

WHAT CAFE, an art gallery cafe operated by Warehouse TERRADA, will have "WHAT CAFE EXHIBITION vol.35'" from March 22nd (Fri) to March 31st (Sun), 2024.

[Overview]

This exhibition will introduce 100 to 150 pieces of artwork by ten up-and-coming artists endorsed by the contemporary artist Yuka Numata. It involves the exhibiting artists from the early planning stage, and the exhibition incorporates their perspectives to a large extent. They discussed the differences in time and artistic expression, coming up with concepts and deciding on the participating artists while considering the exhibit’s framework and original event. Visitors will be able to encounter the thoughts and passions that have emerged from these processes. WHAT CAFE will also offer them opportunities to feel closer to art by enjoying interactions with the artists.

[Message from Yuka Numata, artist on this occasion]

If potato chips were sold in the Edo period under the name “Fragments of the Moon,” they would likely sell well. They are delicious and resemble the moon in appearance. Since people didn’t understand what the moon was made of back then, they might have believed the possibility that the moon could be a potato chip.
However, those in the modern age know that the moon isn’t made of potato chip. The pursuit of truth through technology, science, and the information society of the internet is gradually eroding our freedom to romanticize and be creative.
While drowning in the abundant sea of information and the rapidly accelerating world, we realize the need to reclaim something important. This exhibition is a quest to explore the world as seen by artists living in a transitional period and to the possibility that potato chips are the moon.
We aim to be the only exhibition that reaffirms the truth and humor important to humanity in the modern era.
