Art Gallery Cafe, WHAT CAFE to Hold Exhibition Collaborating with Gallery WHYNOT.TOKYO from August 5th (Fri)

ART IS …, a new concept by WHAT CAFE, will launch

WHAT CAFE, an art gallery cafe operated by Warehouse TERRADA, will have WHAT CAFE × WHYNOT.TOKYO EXHIBITION from August 5th (Fri) to August 21st (Sun), 2022. Additionally, we announce that WHAT CAFE will be operated based on the new concept “ART IS …” prior to the second anniversary of its launch.

WHAT CAFE is a space to exhibit and sell artworks by up-and coming artists in Japan. It has held 17 exhibitions since its opening, offering numerous encounters with artworks. WHAT CAFE has decided to renew its concept to ART IS … prior to its second anniversary in October 2022. This concept embraces its vision that it will offer a space to reconsider and rediscover what art is to everyone who visits WHAT CAFE. With this concept, it will exhibit and sell works by various artists in every exhibition. And over time, by gathering and sharing each thought about ART IS… among artists, collectors, galleries and other significant stakeholders of contemporary art as well as art fans, WHAT CAFE will also offer suggestions to visitors to enhance their interest in art.

[Overview]

In August, WHAT CAFE will collaborate on an exhibition with WHYNOT.TOKYO, a project led by Artist Towa Takaya. WHYNOT.TOKYO organizes exhibitions, sells artworks, and activity introductions in collaboration with contemporary artists, curators, and researchers in Japan and abroad. WHAT CAFE received recognition from WHYNOT.TOKYO, and hence this exhibition came to fruition. Through the exhibit of 160 artworks by 29 artists and art events during the exhibition, we will offer an enriched experience to visitors to further an understanding of respecting personality, different cultural and social backgrounds, and humanity. These crossover and multilayer endeavors bring visitors opportunities to connect to each artist’s diverse philosophy and expression. We also plan to design the exhibition for people who appreciate art for the first time or those who have a dream of becoming an artist.
