WHAT CAFE to Hold Collaboration Exhibition with Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition TOKYO, Featuring 16 Contemporary Artists from February 19th

WHAT CAFE, an art gallery cafe operated by Warehouse TERRADA, will present the exhibition “WHAT CAFE EXHIBITION vol. 40: NIPPON ART NOW” from February 19th (Wed) to March 4th (Tue), 2025.

We are currently offering workshops, gourmet experiences, and other special programs in collaboration with the Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition TOKYO (organized by the Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition TOKYO Executive Committee), which is being held at the Warehouse TERRADA G1 Building from December 21st (Sat), 2024 until March 31st (Mon), 2025. As part of the collaboration, WHAT CAFE will showcase artworks by 16 up-and-coming contemporary artists alongside a themed food menu and a dedicated photo spot.

Many ‘Ukiyoe’ paintings, which spread as a popular culture during the Edo Period, depicted daily life and scenery of the time. They are regarded as a quintessential form of Japanese painting and remain beloved worldwide. This exhibition will feature motifs such as art, culture, beliefs nurtured by the Japanese since ancient times, and ‘events and things’ deeply rooted in daily life. Approximately 150 to 200 works, in which the artists have reinterpreted these themes through contemporary perspectives, will be on display. WHAT CAFE will occasionally have participating artists at the venue during the exhibition. It will host art workshops to allow visitors to experience art up close through direct interactions with the artists.

Warehouse TERRADA aims to develop the area of Tennoz further as an art district, offering art appreciation and various art-related experiences for visitors of the Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition TOKYO and providing an enjoyable visit to Tennoz.
