New galleries to open in “TERRADA ART COMPLEX”

To improve the value of culture through the storing and restoring art as well as to pursue the skills to pass the art to the future generations are the two of Warehouse TERRADA’s important missions. In recent years, under the “TERRADA ART VILLAGE” plan, the company is pushing forward various art projects: “TERRADA ART COMPLEX, opened in September 2016, is one among them. It holds four galleries (Kodama Gallery, URANO, YAMAMOTO GENDAI and YUKA TSURUNO GALLERY) and a viewing room where the four galleries take turns to show their artists. Its walls are 5-meter high, enabling large works to be shown. Besides the galleries, office of Helutrans-Terrada Co., Ltd and TAC ART STUDIO, studio space for artists are also located. On the fifth floor of the building, two new galleries, SCAI PARK and KOSAKU KANECHIKA, will open in March 2017.

SCAI PARK is the new space run by SCAI THE BATHHOUSE, opened in 1993 in Yanaka, Taito. A part of their storage space in the building is transformed into an exhibition space. Besides works by the artists they represent, they also showcase the works that deserve to be seen again. At the group show opening on March 11th, new and previous works by Darren Almond, Lee Ufan and other artists of SCAI THE BATHHOUSE will be shown. The work by Daniel Buren will also be presented for the first time in 28 years.

“KOSAKU KANECHIKA” is a new gallery by Kosaku Kanechika, former director of Tomio Koyama Gallery. Its inauguration show titled “CAMELLIA FIELDS” is the solo exhibition by Noritaka Tatehana, known for his “Heel-less Shoes” series. The new work “CAMELLIA FIELDS” is an installation where hand-colored casting of camellias will be spread on the floor in 3-meter wide circle. The work was inspired by the fallen camellia flowers on mossy ground, which he saw in the garden of Kakuonji Temple in Kamakura, the city in which he grew up.

As these two galleries, established and fresh, join “TERRADA ART COMPLEX,” it will be a location to enjoy broader range of art and will be a place collectors must check out frequently.
